At mealtimes, gather around the table next door to dine together and plan the following day’s activities. Venture upstairs to discover the inviting lounge, bedrooms and bathroom, which has a shower over the bath. There is also a separate WC up here. Go shopping and dine out in Milford on Sea; book a sea fishing trip or a paddleboard lesson. Take a stroll over to Hurst Castle, just 1 mile from your base. This former artillery fort dates back to the 16th century. Catch a ferry over to the Isle of Wight to see the Needles and Alum Bay, famous for its multi-coloured cliffs. Or plan a day out in Bournemouth, 15 miles away, to go to the beach, walk along the pier and get fish and chips before heading home.

If you’re after a holiday destination which has natural wonders and British tradition in abundance, look no further than the New Forest – a region where beautiful heathland, forest trails and stunning coastline surround quaint villages and market towns.

The National Park is found on England’s south coast, covering the south west of Hampshire but extending into Wiltshire and Dorset. It’s known for its picturesque footpaths and cycle trails, from which you can witness the spectacular sights of deer, ponies and cattle roaming free throughout the ancient woodland.

The villages of Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst and Buckler’s Hard have plenty of traditional, cosy pubs in which you can enjoy some locally-brewed cider or beer. Or, if you wanted something a little livelier, Hythe, Lymington and New Milton run fantastic weekly markets, while the lively city of Southampton is a drive away.

If you prefer coast over country, a visit to the shoreline is a must. Highlights include the Barton-on-Sea cliffs, Lymington Quay, and the Beaulieu River, where adventurous activities including canoeing await. There are plenty of other great things to do, too, with the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, Breamore House and Museum near Fordingbridge, and Exbury Gardens all found around the region.
