The cottage is well equipped and in a great location. Upstairs is spacious and it was lovely eating out on the balcony terrace. It is easy to walk to Beaulieu or Bucklers Hard and is in a peaceful spot near the river. The cottage is only let down by the second bedroom which contains a double bed but there is not enough room to walk round from the fRead morear side. The second occupant has to climb over the first to reach the door and the second bathroom is up the spiral staircase. Hide

We really enjoyed our stay at the Riverside Retreat, perfectly situated in-between Beaulieu Village and Buckler's Hard. It was great for walking and cycling around the New Forest, whilst also being set in tranquil, picturesque surroundings, with great elevated views through the trees across the river Beaulieu. We would definitely stay here again.

Stunning! What an amazing location, so peaceful and quiet yet only a few miles from the bigger villages. And the best thing - a deer came to visit one morning. We wasted an hour just watching it graze nearby!

If you’re after a holiday destination which has natural wonders and British tradition in abundance, look no further than the New Forest – a region where beautiful heathland, forest trails and stunning coastline surround quaint villages and market towns.

The National Park is found on England’s south coast, covering the south west of Hampshire but extending into Wiltshire and Dorset. It’s known for its picturesque footpaths and cycle trails, from which you can witness the spectacular sights of deer, ponies and cattle roaming free throughout the ancient woodland.

The villages of Lyndhurst, Brockenhurst and Buckler’s Hard have plenty of traditional, cosy pubs in which you can enjoy some locally-brewed cider or beer. Or, if you wanted something a little livelier, Hythe, Lymington and New Milton run fantastic weekly markets, while the lively city of Southampton is a drive away.

If you prefer coast over country, a visit to the shoreline is a must. Highlights include the Barton-on-Sea cliffs, Lymington Quay, and the Beaulieu River, where adventurous activities including canoeing await. There are plenty of other great things to do, too, with the National Motor Museum at Beaulieu, Breamore House and Museum near Fordingbridge, and Exbury Gardens all found around the region.
