Beaulieu River View is a truly unique waterside holiday cottage that's ideal for a honeymoon, minimoon or romantic escape. Standing on stilts on the bank of the river and tucked away in the ancient woodlands of the New Forest National Park, Beaulieu River View was once a yachtsman’s cabin, now a stylish and beautifully presented self catering retreat with scenery straight out of The Wind in the Willows.
Holidays at Beaulieu River View are all about relaxing. It’s an all year destination, where the charm of the location changes with each season. In the spring and summer wake up to a cheerful dawn chorus, a thousand of shades of green and dine al fresco in the treetops. The autumn brings spectacular displays of colour, darting pheasants and deer in the grounds, with the low sun streaming through the living room. The winter months host our favourite views with the morning mists across the river and the shimmering light on the water at sunset.
On the doorstep are miles of open forest to explore. You can hire kayaks and paddle down river to the Solent or walk or cycle along the Solent Way to the old ship-building village of Buckler’s Hard, watching the landscape change from woodland to tidal river-edge grassland to salt marsh. Or simply relax on the wraparound deck and take in the stunning views of the tidal Beaulieu River, a haven for spotting wildlife such as curlew, treecreepers and deer.
The owners of Beaulieu River View receive rave reviews for their hospitality. Read more about Beaulieu River view and why it’s such a special bolthole here.
Built on stilts, the accommodation is all on the first floor, with a flight of external wooden stairs leading up to the 7ft x 30ft wrap around balcony and cabin entrance.
The living space is bright and spacious with floor to ceiling glazed windows and sliding doors which open onto the deck to bring the outside in. The stylish lounge offers a wonderful sense of calm and comfort with tranquil mood lighting, a flame effect fire and all the mod cons for a restful break including a 42” HD TV with Freesat, blue ray dvd player, wifi and ipod docking. Everything has been thought of and is in situ, from films and games, to books and maps of the area.
There are so many idyllic spots to dine at Beaulieu River View you’ll be spoilt for choice. In the living area there’s a dining table for two overlooking the treetops, fling open the doors, pop on the mood lighting and dine under the stars (a firm favourite for proposals!).
There’s a superb breakfast bar in the kitchen, with panoramic views overlooking the Beaulieu River, a great spot for morning coffee. Binoculars and a bird watching book are provided alongside a diary, where staying guests have jotted down the arrival times of the visiting wildlife, which makes a delightful read.
A stable door from the kitchen leads out onto the decked balcony, where there’s a Café table and tall chairs for al fresco dining overlooking the river.
In the grounds to the riverside of the cabin, there’s a large outdoor dining table with benches and armchairs, the perfect spot to enjoy long lazy lunches. There’s also an idyllic rustic bench on the riverbank to take in the views with a glass of bubbly.
The kitchen is beautifully fitted, immaculately presented and fully equipped for a self catering holiday. We love the sparkly granite worktops and blue floor lights which create a romantic atmosphere in the evenings.
A luxurious and restful sleep is a given at Beaulieu River View. Sink into the double bed with memory foam mattress and topper, dressed in 600 thread count Egyptian cotton sheets. For undisturbed lie-ins there’s the scenic blackout roller blind but if you want to be completely cocooned you can pull the window shutter closed too.
White dressing gowns and complimentary towelling slippers can be found in the wardrobe, where there’s plenty of storage and hanging space to unpack.
A modern bathroom and separate WC complete the accommodation offering. Featuring a bath with brilliant power shower over, heated towel rail, movement sensor lighting in the seperate WC and of course Egyptian cotton towels for added luxury
Beaulieu River View is accessed by a gravel track that leads to the small enclave of riverside properties, secluded but not isolated. It’s an enjoyable 15 minute stroll to Beaulieu village through the fields and woodland paths to pick up the newspapers, or 4 minutes by car.
The grounds are unfenced, purposely left in their natural state to encourage the abundant wildlife. There’s ample parking if you have kayaks or a small boat in tow.
A small jetty is available to hire and river mooring and visiting yachts are welcome, all subject to availability by contacting the Harbourmaster at Bucklers Hard. Fishing is permitted on the Beaulieu River from moored vessels and from Buckler's Hard, Keeping Trees and Bailey's Hard by Permit only. Please do email us in advance with your requirements.
The ground floor of the cabin offers ample secure storage for bikes. It also houses a washing machine and dryer and an additional WC.
